It contains 25 short tales, based on the original legends created by Sir Thomas Malory, about King Arthur, Lancelot, Guinevere, Merlin, th sword Excalibur, & the Knights of the Round Table. FIRST PRINTING in this edition (First, Thus). Condition on this copy (we have another listing, $014941, without DJ, that is VG), is Near Fine: as it has been covered in the protective DJ, the book's orange cloth-covered boards are remarkably clean, gilt lettering bright, & front paste-down is brilliant! Bright clear colors, interior pages moderately tanned, heavier around edges, but completely unmarked. Mild rubbing to extremities & slight corner bumping. The unclipped DJ (with same design as front pastedown) is only Good, with chipping to both ends of spine & corners, light soil. Looks lovely in new archival mylar cover! Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Frank Godwin (illustrator). 1st Edition. Maroon clothbound without a dustjacket. Spine and boards are clear but lightly soiled, with very light bumps to corners. Cloth along spine has several faint spots and a tear to the very top-flap of cloth at top of spine is reduced by wear to it's paper base. The paste-on front-cover illustration is very clear and clean with very light scratches. Black print on spine is clear and presentable. Interior is very clean with prior owners name on half-title page. Binding is fragile at some points, at the frontis-piece is separated; it is included and in place. Generally the binding is secure and strong with all pages intact, including the ten Frank Godwin illustrations. Three of the six ink drawings have discreet coloring added by prior owner. All four full-color plates are clean and intact although one has a one-inch tear to fore-edge. Endpaper graphics are clean. Book is usable for reading (with care) and particularly for display.
