Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. 1st Edition. In German. I believe this is a First Edition (1951 on the Title Page). I am certain that it is rare. I found only one other copy for sale on the Internet, it being sold out of Germany. That is probably where the previous owner, the renowned actor and balladeer, Theodore Bikel, likely purchased the book. He was very well traveled. His small bookplate is neatly and cleanly affixed to the front inside cover. He has signed the book on the facing front end paper along with the date, June 1953. Both inside covers and their facing end papers are quite toned, not foxed. However, that is not the case with the rest of the pages in the book. They are not at all toned, in fact fairly bright. They are also in very nice condition, exceptionally clean. Scrolling through, I'm actually not finding any instances of soiling. I'm not seeing any conspicuous creasing. There is some crinkling, mostly off the top corners of the rear sides of the pages, not much of anything. There are no markings in the book. The only attachment is the aforementioned bookplate. The only writing, the signature and date just referenced. There is a section (Bilteil) of 12 pages of photographs at the end of the book. They are in excellent shape. They have a light amber toning on a few small areas of their white margins, also a few amber spots at the margin of the first photograph. The book is very solidly bound from cover to cover with nicely tight pages throughout and nicely tight covers as well. You can see the covers in the photos. They are quite clean, a few specks. There is some color fade at the margins. The spine is in excellent shape. The red lettering on the spine is nicely bright. The cover edges and corners are in very good shape. There is a tiny crease just below three of the four corners. You can see the dust jacket in the first few photos. It has small losses at the top and bottom corners of the spine, not reaching the print. It has a few thin edge tears off both the top and bottom edges of the front cover and off the top edge of the rear cover, only one tiny one off the rear bottom edge. There is some light handling soiling on the jacket. The flaps are very clean. All four corners have thin clips. If the jacket was priced, the clips removed it. They do not reach the print on the flaps which is in German so I am at a loss to tell you what it says. The jacket is fitted with a protective cover.
