Add to basketHardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Poor. 3rd Edition. Wilhelm Uhde was a pioneering German art critic, dealer, and collector whose masterly 1937 essay on Vincent van Gogh remains a celebrated introduction to the artist's work. First published alongside plates in Vincent Van Gogh: Paintings and Drawings, Uhde…'s writings chronicle the tragic genius's revolutionary technique and brilliant use of colour. Third edition and first printing. In very good minus oatmeal coloured linen-effect cloth boards with brown titles to front and to spine. The boards are flat and firm, lightly marked around the edges and with bumped and slightly frayed spine ends. The end papers are quite clean; the front free end paper is a little warped and has a few light marks. Wilhelm Uhde has written an introduction called "The Life And Work Of Vincent Van Gogh" and L. Goldscheider has selected the 121 plates. To the rear are 'Passages From Van Gogh's Letters". The colour plates have been tipped in and the thick paper beneath is slightly tanned; the black and white plates are not tipped in and are all clean. The text block is tightly bound and even, the Pelims are a little warped. In very good minus condition. No dedications etc. With poor pictorial dust jacket that is in pieces and held together with a removable protective sleeve. The jacket front has a black and white drawing of a building with yellow top and tail borders and black titles. The rear is grubby. Not price clipped. Very heavy.
