Full Embossed Suede Leather. Condition: Good. Hassall, John (illustrator). First Edition. Illustrated with16 full color illustrations by John Hassall. 143 pages + 1 p. final illustration. An early American rarity produced by the high-end silversmithing house of The Gorham Manufacturing Co. Gorham created many early American golf trophies and medals. It is possible these were gift items from the company to certain clients. The author of the brief history of golf, etiquette, and technical terms is anonymous; additionally, there are lists of champions, leading Amateurs and their club affiliations, the Rules as adopted by the R & A 1899 and USGA Rules adopted Feb. 17, 1903. Covers backed with leather, three small chips to the limp suede leather cover lower edges, recovered leather spine, original decoration of a golfer in good condition. The Hassall illustrations are bright, one page corner turned, original red place ribbon still attached. Lower pages stained through page 13, else clean throughout. A vastly underappreciated book, unfortunately very few appear in very good collector condition. Covers protected in mylar. Size: 32mo - over 4" - 5" tall.
