Famous in Albuquerque as a writer, teacher, publisher, editor, and especially as the proprietor of the Living Batch bookstore, Blaisdell was also a brilliant critic whose essays influenced readers throughout the country and across the Atlantic. This long-awaited collection of Blaisdell's critical writings includes essays on literature, art, and film, along with moving tributes by some of the distinguished writers who numbered Blaisdell among their friends. Introductory essays by philosopher Stanley Cavell and literary critic David Morris join colleague Ira Jaffe's poignant memoir to provide perspectives on the man by friends who knew him well. Glimpses of Blaisdell's vivid personality can be had from the many photographs included, and the diligently researched chronology compiled by Nicole Blaisdell Ivey tracks the course of her father's complicated life." Hardcover. Condition: NEW. Dust Jacket Condition: new. First Edition, First Printing. SIGNED COPY Steidl, Gottingen. 2010. Hardcover in dust jacket. First edition, first printing. First book in color by Gossage. 80 pages, 180 colour plates. Essays by John Gossage and Gerhard Steidl. SIGNED twice by John Gossage. Cited in Parr &…Badger, Vol. 3. Book Condition: New/Fine copy. SIGNED twice by John Gossage. "John Gossage, the renowned American photographer and photography book-maker, presents two companion volumes and his first ever books in color. Engaged in a dance, neither book comes first, there is no hierarchy or sequence to the pair of volumes. Gossage is one of the most literary of photographic book authors and in The Thirty-Two Inch Ruler, the narrative, whilst not autobiographical, is about a neighborhood in which he lives; one that is singular in the United States. At the same time provincial and international, it is a neighborhood populated by ambassadorial residences, embassies, and the lavish private homes of those who are in positions of power and influence in Washington. A project he began with the arrival of a new neighbor, the Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld and made over a full year`s cycle of seasons, these are images from the drift of privilege. The streets, cars, homes and yards of this neighborhood are photographed on perfect spring or autumn days, with sparklingly clear blue skies, and flowers or foliage accenting the order. These are photographs about how one might wish the world to be, how beauty might be seen as desire. In the same year Gossage made the Map of Babylon, photographing digitally from Washington, to Germany, to China and places in-between. This look away, to places beyond the immediate and local, is a classic exploration of particulars of the outside world." (from the publisher) ohn Gossage, born New York 1946, now residing in Washington, DC, has always been a photographer. Studying briefly with Lisette Model and Alexey Brodovitch in 1960 to 1961. In the late 1960`s he learned Telecaster guitar from Roy Buchanan and Danny Gatton, later giving up professional music in 1973 and returning to photography. Showing from 1974 through 1990 with Leo Castelli Gallery in New York. Then from 1990 on concentrating almost exclusively upon publications. Producing 17 different books and boxes on specific bodies of photographic work. Signed.

Hardcover. Condition: As New. Dust Jacket Condition: None, As Issued. 1st Edition. 1st Printing. Signed. 288 pages. Published in 2014. Artist Book. One of the most beautiful Artist Book productions of our time. The First Hardcover Edition. Precedes and should not be confused with all other subsequent editions. A brilliant produc…tion by John Gossage and David Chickey: Oversize-volumes format. There are three volumes, in three different trim sizes, with pastel-color cloth board designs and titles on the spine, as issued. Photographs by John Gossage. Original writing by Marlene Klein. Printed on pristine-white, thick coated stock paper in (where else) Italy to the highest standards. The reproduction quality is sublime. In publisher's original plastic wrappers. The latter is completely integral to the edition because it is pasted in front with a matching design and titles on printed paper yet is not shown as such in stock photos online. Without DJ's, as issued. Presents John Gossage's and Marlene Klein's "Pomodori a grappolo". The Italian title means "Tomato Cluster". Which, in this case, is "a set of three inter-connected books by photographer and bookmaker John Gossage. Each book gathers images made in Northern Italy and Sardinia between 2009 and 2011, and each includes a text by Marlene Klein. The written pieces - two stories and one epilogue - have been created in response to Gossage's pictures, and reflect the 30 years that Klein has spent living and working in Venice. An unexpected approach runs through all the details of the books, from the way elements repeat, or don't, to the choice of materials and color. Since these three books are each a different trim size but include photos that are reproduced at the exact same size, the collective project functions as a study of the way that ink-on-paper can inform perception. The resulting objects are classic Gossage-clever, unique, and engrossing" (David Chickey). An absolute "must-have" title for John Gossage collectors. Each book in this three-book set of "Pomodori a grappolo" is very prominently and beautifully signed in black ink-pen on the title page by John Gossage. They are all signed directly on the pages themselves, not on tipped-in pages. This title is a contemporary Artist Book classic. As far as we know, this is the only such signed set available online and is in especially fine condition: Clean, crisp, and bright. Please note: Gossage did NOT sign most copies of the books let alone each one of them. The integral plastic wrappers (which comes with a matching design and titles printed on paper, but for some reason, is not shown in stock photos online) is completely intact. A rare signed set thus. One of the most brilliant photographers of our time. A fine collectible set. (SEE ALSO OTHER JOHN GOSSAGE TITLES IN OUR CATALOG) ISBN 1934435848. Signed by Author.

Limited edition of 500 unnumbered copies, signed in black ink on the cover page by Gossage. Soft cover. Newsprint sheets with red and black printed obi (wrap-aro…und band). Photographs by John Gossage. Foreword by Kris Douglas. 80 pp., with black-and-white plates throughout printed on heavy newsprint. 22-1/2 x 12-1/2 inches. Published on the occasion of an exhibition at the Rochester Art Center, Rochester, Minnesota. SIGNED by John Gossage on the front cover. Book Condition: New/Fine copy. SIGNED. From the Rochester Art Center: "Since the 1960s, John Gossage has created photographs that are poetic, dark evocations of the edges of cities and the suburban, placeless landscape. In these extended projects, which have included Berlin (during the time of The Wall), Superfund sites, and the greater reaches of Washington D.C., Gossage has turned his camera to the forgotten, neglected and overlooked elements of the spaces which we pass through and sometimes inhabit. Working with a medium-format camera and films and papers that capture subtle tonal variations, Gossage presents a highly psychological view of our world today. In the spring of 2009, Gossage was commissioned by the RAC to make photographs in and around the neighborhoods of Rochester. The completed series forms an entirely new body of work, which comprises this exhibition, and begins to tell a unique story of our city, its people, and our environment. Eventually, this work will become part of a larger project by Gossage that considers the state of America in the 21st century.". Signed.

Photographs by John Gossage and Alec Soth. 160 pp., with 80 four-color plates. 11-1/2 x 9 inches. New in publisher's packaging. Prints and books in flawless, pristine condition. From the publisher: "In the Spring of 2009, John Gossage and Alec Soth traveled together to New Zealand to work on a joint photography project. For both, it was a trip of departures. Gossage has been creating photographic literature in black-and-white for over 40 years, and this trip yielded one of the first bodies of work he had ever produced in color. Soth's work with the 8x10 view camera has inspired an entire generation of his contemporaries, and leaving it behind was key to approaching the world from a fresh visual perspective. The results represent a major shift of vision for these two vastly important American photographers. This publication represents the culmination of that trip. Both the concept and the content of the book have been driven by the uniqueness of the collaboration and the primacy of the photobook to the artistic practice of both Soth and Gossage. Essentially two books in one, The Auckland Project showcases a playful attention to materials and presentation that marks all Radius Books projects. Unlike 2007's Obvious & Ordinary in which Martin Parr (in his signature color) and John Gossage (using black-and-white) published the results of a road-trip across the American South, this volume presents the two photographers' work separately, creatively combined through the device of the book and its housing."
