Jean Baptiste Gramaye né en 1579 à Anvers en Belgique et mort en 1635 à Lubecque en Allemagne est un historien flamand. Professeur à l'université de Louvain il fut nommé historiographe des archiducs Albert et Isabelle. c'est à cette occasion qu'il publia une série d'ouvrages sur les villes des pays bas dont cette description des antiquités et beautés de la ville d'Anvers, un livre devenu introuvable. Capturé par les Turques en 1619, il laissa un journal de sa captivité et consacra sa vie au rachat des esclaves chrétiens. Exemplaire en vélin de l'époque malheureusement incomplet de ses gravures sur cuivre, mais complet du texte. Provenance : intéressant exlibris gravé aux armes parlantes de Christoph Frosch, représentant des grenouilles escaladant l'arbre de la connaissance (Frosch/grenouille). Christophe Frosch était un imprimeur suisse érudit issu d'une lignée prolifique de libraires. Édition originale Bruxelloise de ce livre très rare. En l'état. Livre ancien.
