Gli anni in cui Grapputo detta, sempre più stancamente, i versi riproposti in questo volume, sono anche gli stessi nei quali si manifesta il dissenso politico del Foscolo e di altri intellettuali non conformisti, per i quali la pratica neoclassica dell'antico si traduce invece in affermazione di identità della nazione.
