Condition: Good. Offering this RARE primary document, Terraria: Care and Culture by Eldred E. Green. Chicago: Self-Published, 1929. This booklet was produced in the early days of Green's career to capture the series of talks he presented to botany classes at Morgan Park High School in Chicago 1925-1927, at the suggestion of botany teacher Miss Monsch, who also urged Green to write up the talks. This booklet represents the first of these talks in written form, with his added notes. There is one photo illustration of the author's terrarium containing 50 species of plants and mosses. The condition of the booklet is good: clean, unmarked with age toning and a vertical crease (as pictured). The original staples are present and secure. Beyond his later garden talks, he went on to author thousands of newspaper columns, journal articles, and bulletin contributions. Eldred Green (1903-1981) was a foundational figure of what is now the Indoor Gardening Society of America (IGSA). Green was a prominent American horticulturist and long-time garden editor for the Chicago Tribune , known for his practical advice and extensive knowledge of plant cultivation, especially regarding indoor plants. His formal leadership and horticultural authority established the IGSA as a serious organization. Green's work may also have played a foundational role to the modern terrarium movement.
