Pforzheim 1969: "Es ist dem Autor gelungen, die Präformationslehre am Beispiel der Pflanze so klar und schulmäßig zu entwickeln, daß seine Schrift in diesem Punkt als historisches Dokument bezeichnet werden kann" (S. 157). - Der Verfasser gilt als Gegner der Scholastik, die viele astronomische, physikalische und biologische Erscheinungen nicht mehr erklären konnte, bekämpfte die aristotelischen Lehrmeinungen und stellte diesen seinen Atomismus entgegen. "Am Beispiel der Stoffumwandlung soll die Überlegenheit der atomistischen Lehre demonstriert werden. Gerade dieses Vorgehen verleiht Grienwaldts Darstellung theoretischen Charakter, denn ihm geht es nicht primär um botanische sondern um philosophische Fragestellungen" (S. 150). - Grienwaldt wurde 1708 in Wolfratshausen geboren, studierte in Ingolstadt Medizin, publizierte 1732 eine Schrift mit dem Titel "Medicus novitius scrupulosus", die heftig angefeindet wurde und seinen Verfasser zwang, Ingolstadt zu verlassen.
