Sono due opere con molti aspetti formali in comune, ma se nella Calisto si inscenava il desiderio che gli dèi hanno di noi terrestri, in questa il "Cieco d'Adria" indaga le sfaccettature dell'amore umano. Era dunque quantomai opportuno che all'edizione dell'una seguisse l'altra. Messo in scena ad Adria nel 1565 e stampato per la prima volta nel 1576, primogenito dunque rispetto all'Aminta tassiana, il Pentimento amoroso è una pastorale raffinatissima. Si apre con il contrasto fra due pastori che amano la stessa ninfa e si svolge in un'Arcadia, da cui l'autore scrive di essere da poco tornato, tutt'altro che felice, dominata anzi da passioni così forti ed esacerbate da costeggiare la tragedia. Percorre il Pentimento un climax che dalla gelosia degli amanti rivali, passa per l'amore-follia della sconcertante Filovevia, e arriva all'odio aspro e mortale di Ergasto, i due personaggi antitetici e complementari (come Eco e Narciso) destinati a congiungersi nel finale. Cieco dai primi giorni di vita, Luigi Groto (1541-1585) fu uno scrittore infaticabile, tuttora poco studiato. Poeta lirico e celebre oratore, fu molto attivo nell'ambito teatrale, con commedie e tragedie (famosa è l'Adriana). Come attore interpretò, fra l'altro, il ruolo di Edipo nell'Edipo tiranno che inaugurò il Teatro Olimpico di Vicenza nel 1585. Interessato alla magia naturale, compensava la cecità con la profezia: nel 1569 suggerì ai Veneziani il punto esatto dove scavare un canale (oggi Taglio di Po) per deviare il corso del Po, che inondava di continuo campagne e paesi. Qui si pubblica una sua pastorale, che la lunga gestazione e le precoci messe in scena prima della stampa nel 1583 rendono precedente all'Aminta tassiana. Groto riprende, ibridandolo pesantemente con l'Amphitruo plautino, un mito ovidiano pochissimo frequentato nella letteratura volgare, il solo che alluda all'amore fra donne. Libro.

L'edizione critica delle Rime di Luigi Groto (1541-1585), detto il Cieco di Adria, è ora pubblicata in due volumi dopo quattrocento anni dall'ultima stampa del 1610 (In Venetia, per Ambrogio Dei). Personaggio di spicco della letteratura cinquecentesca, il Cieco di Adria deve la sua notorietà alle opere drammatiche da lui scritte e rappresentate, oltre che all'attività di oratore e epistolografo. "Le Rime" comprendono oltre mille e trecento poesie, delle quali una Prima Parte uscì in due edizioni curate dall'autore stesso (1577 e 1584). La Seconda e Terza Parte furono invece raccolte e edite dal Dei nel 1610, in una silloge per più versi benemerita. Libro.

Good, large quarto copy of Giovanni Boccaccio's Decameron, redacted by Luigi Groto (1541-1582), from the edition edited by Girolamo Ruscelli (1500's-1556) and first published two years previously. Groto, a minor Venetian writer, reworked Boccaccio's famous tale; retaining parts of the original parable but also creating his own tangents. Groto, for instance, created a predicament concerning a young man who finds himself confronted by three different ladies he has been secretly courting. When his deceit is discovered, he must answer as to which of them is his true love. The lengthy narration of the amoroso imbroglio is Groto's own literary stamp and he hoped with these revisions he would gain literary fame, stating "I will give life and light to Boccaccio, and he will do likewise for me [.] I will rescue him from darkness and burial, and he in turn will rescue me from obscurity " Ironically, Groto's retelling of the Decameron remains known for it deformations of the tale rather than it's celebration. Each of the ten sections are preceded by an overview written by Ruscelli, the well-known editor of Ptolemy's Geographia of 1754, and a large woodcut illustration depicting narrative scenes of the Decameron tale.
