Very good condition, triangular bit of spine covering lost at top right corner of spine, but underlying layer still there, so spine is intact Includes, according t…o the title page, 10 portraits of Tolstoy and many facsimiles of manuscripts and letters by him. A tipped-in slip explains that the actual first printing was destroyed by court order because of the inclusion of certain letters, necessitating a new edition in which those letters were removed. Instead of resetting the book, the censored letters were replaced by blank spaces. Pre-Revolutionary old-style Russian orthography.
