Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Seminar paper from the year 2007 in the subject Politics - Topic: European Union, grade: 1.5, College of Europe, Natolin Campus (EU Institutions, Politics and Policies), language: English, abstract: Signed fifty years ago, the Treaty of Rome proclaimed an 'ever closer union' by 'establishing a common market and progressive approximation of the economic policies of member states' . This approximation had, however, a negative side effect -opposition to market integration, and after the sequence of enlargements - ardent resistance to any further European integration. Moreover, since the Maastricht Treaty, Eurosceptics have exploited a new battleground: 'defence of national community' in response to the erosion of national sovereignty and to the heightened job insecurity caused by market unification and liberalization process. As enlargement process was taking its course, Euroscepticism grew into a potent feature of the political landscape across the EU, by not only shaking confidence in the process of further enlargement, but also 'provoking several attempts to re-theorize the process of European integration' . Thus, for example, 'soft eurosceptics' (definition proposed by Paul Taggart and Aleks Szczerbiak ) opposed to the 'EU's current or future planned trajectory based on the future extension of competencies' , whereas the main objective of their 'hard counterparts' was 'tantamount to being de facto opposed to EU membership' . In this paper we'll try to analyse a phenomenon of hard Euroscepticism in the European Union by presenting Danish and British cases. We'll demonstrate that sometimes hard Eurosceptic parties can be convinced of the case for European integration, despite their ardent anti-EU positions.

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Seminar paper from the year 2004 in the subject Politics - International Politics - Topic: European Union, grade: 1.0, Otto-von-Guericke-University Magdeburg, course: The European Union's 21st Century design for international security and co-operation, language: English, abstract: On 02 November 2003, the United Nations Security Council unanimously adopted Resolution 1464/02 (2003) authorising under Chapter VII of the UN Charter, the temporary deployment of an interim emergency multinational force in Jonathan Area, in the Democratic Republic of X-land, Africa. Referring to the request of the High Representative for CFSP, General Secretary Xavier Solana, the Political Planning Unit has prepared a background-paper to be submitted for the Council's discussion and decision on the Secretary-General's request. The following background paper covers the two main questions to be answered:1. Should the European Union decide to provide a temporary stabilisation force in the Jonathan Area 2. What are the legal, political and procedural conditions to take the relevant decision on the launching of the European Union military operation in the Democratic Republic of X-land The European Union is a newcomer in the business of military and peace support operations. However, it is true that its member states have long been involved in almost any sort of any - Article 5 (NATO/WEU) or Chapter VI-VII (UNO) mission in the past, and they are still today. Yet they have normally done so under other flags than the EU's proper.

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Seminar paper from the year 2004 in the subject Sociology - Gender Studies, grade: 1,7, Otto-von-Guericke-University Magdeburg, course: Gender Issues in Contemporary Russia, language: English, abstract: After the declaration of the Ukrainian independence and fall of the 'iron curtain' the awareness of the Ukrainian women was drastically changed. Ideologically guided canon of femininity - 'a Soviet super-woman' as 'a working mother' - has lost its actuality; in the 1990s it was changed by new life standards, behaviour models, values and moral norms. At once the nationalist movements appeared on the scene and demanded to design and maintain national identity with articulation of basic concepts of nationality. In Ukraine this process was socially defined through the modern reconstruction of patriarchy supported by the educational system, mass media, political discourse, and legislation. Having recognised Ukrainian as the official language, Ukraine began moulding ideology constructed on the conception of the pre- Revolutionary Ukraine. The entangled images of the Cossack republic and the image of Ukraine as Mother, together with vital revival of Orthodoxy, strengthened patriarchy in politics, social order and cultural structures of the modern Ukrainian society. However through economical crisis and society instability, the image of Mother-Protector correlated with the historical past and traditional culture of the Ukrainians was shifted from its key position by unfamiliar before, but rather appealing 'Western models of femininity'. In this paper we try to find out how all these images of femininity were created, maintained and transformed through the recent years.

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Seminar paper from the year 2005 in the subject English Language and Literature Studies - Literature, grade: 1.0, Otto-von-Guericke-University Magdeburg (Institut für fremdsprachliche Philologien), language: English, abstract: Virginia Woolf took her life in March 1941. Her fear that she would no longer be able to live meaningfully, according to her ideals and particular vision of life, forced her to choose death as salvation. To her, death was not an ending. The spirit above all had to be preserved. Like her character Septimus Warren Smith, under the strain of mental illness, she threw her life away in order to preserve that which was most sacred to her - life and integrity of the soul.Probably it seems to be a contradiction - to destroy one's life in an effort to save it. There are many such paradoxes in Virginia Woolf's thinking, due to her emotional nature and to her special way of looking at life, time, and space that shapes reality itself. In this vision of life as an eternal process, the concepts of time and space, invented by man, have no meaning, because reality exists outside of them. By passing his temporal life man views all things in relation to himself and his life on the earth. But it is rather difficult to squeeze one's life among birth and death, for man permanently organises his experience into rather relative formulations of interweaving time and space. And reality, as viewed by Virginia Woolf, includes the whole expanse of space and time, and every living form brings its historic and prehistoric past into the ever-flowing stream of life. The present moment is never isolated, because it is filled with very preceding moment, and is constantly in the process of change. Time flows with the stream, having neither beginning nor end. Reality is actually timeless and spaceless, because it contains all space and all time.Believing in the eternal process, Virginia Woolf also demanded a revolution in literary technique and subject matter. She reconsidered personality, language, plot and structure in a new light. Personality was continuously in the process of taking shape and could not be accomplished by external descriptions. Language had to convey the emotions and perceptions of different levels of awareness all at the same moment, revealing the unconscious as well as the conscious things. Plot had to be eliminated, since action held no interest. The only thing that mattered was the inner life. Filled with the 'moments of being', it revealed to a person the pattern behind the woolly curtain of existence and through it, connected him to the other people and the outer world.

Market competition and free trade have increased prosperity for some nations and groups but left others behind. Peace and human rights do not always go hand in hand. Democratisation and increased popular participation in government can lead to minority rights abuses. Economic development and democratisation cannot always be achieved simultaneously; in the long run, these values may be reconcilable, but in the short run, they can generate tensions.Conflicts around the world have not declined, despite the end of the Cold War. From 1989 through 1993, a total of 90 large and small-armed conflicts occurred. At any given time, the number of violent conflicts fluctuates around 50 each year. That's why in the post cold-war era, it has become more important than ever that the three actors in conflict prevention and resolution - governments, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and intergovernmental organisations - went hand in hand. The crucial lesson learned from the previous peace processes had been that there could be no peace without the participation and the will of the parties and the populations involved, for which participation of civil society was fundamental.

Zustand: Sehr gut | Sprache: Englisch | Produktart: Bücher | Seminar paper from the year 2005 in the subject English Language and Literature Studies - Literature, grade: 1.0, Otto-von-Guericke-University Magdeburg (Institut für fremdsprachliche Philologien), language: English, abstract: Virginia Woolf took her life in March 1941. Her fear that she would no longer be able to live meaningfully, according to her ideals and particular vision of life, forced her to choose death as salvation. To her, death was not an ending. The spirit above all had to be preserved. Like her character Septimus Warren Smith, under the strain of mental illness, she threw her life away in order to preserve that which was most sacred to her ż life and integrity of the soul. Probably it seems to be a contradiction - to destroy oneżs life in an effort to save it. There are many such paradoxes in Virginia Woolfżs thinking, due to her emotional nature and to her special way of looking at life, time, and space that shapes reality itself. In this vision of life as an eternal process, the concepts of time and space, invented by man, have no meaning, because reality exists outside of them. By passing his temporal life man views all things in relation to himself and his life on the earth. But it is rather difficult to squeeze oneżs life among birth and death, for man permanently organises his experience into rather relative formulations of interweaving time and space. Reality is actually timeless and spaceless, because it contains all space and all time. Believing in the eternal process, Virginia Woolf also demanded a revolution in literary technique and subject matter. Filled with the żmoments of beingż, it revealed to a person the pattern behind the woolly curtain of existence and through it, connected him to the other people and the outer world.

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu.

Taschenbuch. Condition: Neu.

20 pp. Englisch.

12 pp. Englisch.
