In seinen Werken wandte er sich gegen die typisch barocke Verspieltheit der Sprache. Neben seinen literarischen Arbeiten trat Zincgref meistens als Verfasser und Herausgeber von Flugschriften auf, mit denen er die aktuelle Politik kommentierte und kritisierte.
