This example is a presentation copy. Inscribed by the author, Heinrich Armin Rattermann (18321923) of Cincinnati to M. D. Learned, Editor of Americana Germanica. The pamphlet is a monograph on the German Renaissance painter and printmaker Albrecht Durer entitled Albrecht Dürer, der deutsche Grossmeister der Kunston (Albrecht Dürer, the German Grand Master of Arts). Ratterman's paper was first presented at the Deutschen Litterarischen Klub (German Literary Club) of Cincinnati, on 27 May 1896. It was subsequently read at the Albrecht Dürer Verein (Albrecht Dürer Club) of New York, on 17 June 1896. An advertisement on the back cover announces the prospective publication of a ten-volume set of the collected works of H. A. Rattermann. His writings included much on literature, biography, and language.
