Hardcover. First Edition. 8" x 10.5" scrapbook, with textured black fabric over boards and open spine. Back paste down identifies this as "Premier Scrapbook No. 60" from the Elbe Line. Contains 41 black paper leaves. Contains 48 souvenir envelopes from the 1939 New York World's Fair. Contains an envelope from each state's "day" featuring the state's flag and signature of the governor, except Hawaii and Alaska which were not states at the time, and Minnesota. Instead, two days feature North Carolina. 45 of the envelopes are postmarked from the World's Fair between May and October of 1939, while three are unposted. The envelopes are addressed to Mr. R. Alfred Hackbarth of The Bronx, New York, a stamp collector. The envelopes are empty, and measure 6.5" x 3.5." Eight of the envelopes are blue, and the rest are white. The 45 postmarked envelopes are stamped with thematically connected stamps issued in the 1920s and 1930s. These include: 783- Oregon Territory Centennial, 740- Yosemite (including partial souvenir sheet), 838- Iowa Territory Centennial, 741- Grand Canyon, 743- Mesa Verde, 853- New York World's Fair 1939, 553- Warren Harding, 804- George Washington, 837- Northwest Sesquicentennial, 726- General Ogelthorpe, 772- Connecticut Tercentenary, 782- Arkansas Centennial, 736- Maryland Tercentenary, 646- Battle of Monmouth, 797- Great Smoky Mountains (with souvenir sheet plate number 21696), 615- Huguenot-Walloon Tercentenary, 798- Constitution Sesquicentennial, 748- Glacier, 775- Michigan Centenary, 682- Massachusetts Bay Colony, 807- Thomas Jefferson, 774- Boulder Dam, 795- Northwest Ordinance, 724- William Penn, 776- Texas Centennial, 796- Virginia Dare, 760- Yellowstone, 739- Wisconsin Tercentenary, 643- Vermont Sesquicentennial, 742- Mount Rainier, 683- Charleston, 777- Rhode Island Tercentenary, 763- Zion, 784- Susan B. Leche resigned as governor on June 26th, 1939 and was later arrested on federal corruption charges. Overall very good condition, with minor edge wear to pages. Envelopes are slightly timetoned. Small water stain on the governor of Indiana's signature.
