Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. HAGERTY, Harry J. [260] pp. Lothrop, Lee & Shepard Company 1936 8 1/4" x 6" The first two chapters of this book record three sudden deaths, one of which is obviously a murder. Dan Hurley, editor of the local newspaper, believes that all three deaths are connected and that all three are murders. Working together with Inspector Osgood of the Elmhurst Police Department, he sets out to discover the motive and the person responsible for the killings. Several more persons are to die before Hurley reaches the end of the trail and a surprise solution of the entire mystery. Osgood is a good policeman so far as strong-arm work is concerned, but he has no imagination. Hurley, on the other hand, has enough imagination for two, and he uses it to good effect. The story is fairly good, although the author makes too liberal use of overheard conversations and other stock devices of the mystery writer's trade.
