Bearing the Society's stamp. Replying, as Haig's private secretary, to a letter electing Haig a fellow of the Society. 'Sir Douglas Haig has asked me to… thank you very much for your letter of the 25th instant and will be glad if you will convey to the Council and members of your Society his great appreciation of the honour they have done him. | The Field-Marshal does not think it necessary that you should send him notice of all meetings of your Council, but should you desire his presence on any particular occasion of some matter of importance, he will be greatly obliged to you if you can give him special notice.' Signed 'J H Boraston'. Also included a 12mo handbill issued by the Society, with Haig's address, 'noted 11th. June 1919', on the reverse.

Hardcover. Condition: Fine. 1st Edition. First edition 1919. Pp xviii 378, with 8 portraits and 25 sketch maps. With the accompanying map case containing 10 folding maps. Red buckram gilt. Text vol is in Fine condition and still has the original pale brown printed dust wrapper. There are a couple of tiny nicks and chips but the…wrapper is in excellent condition. Wrapper is priced on the spine at 42/- (£2 2s, or 2 guineas), which was a lot in 1919. Contents are very clean. Light fading to spine of map case. Pre-1920 dust jackets are very rare. Nice set.
