The Woodcut Society was the brainchild of Alfred Fowler, who procured dues of $10 to a limited membership of 200, and in return commissioned and distributed prints from a international collection of artists. Emerson G Wulling was himself a prolific printer at his Sumac Press in both Minneapolis and La Crosse, Wisconsin.
