Geoffrey Handley-Taylor (1920-2005) was an author and literary scholar, biographer, and among other appointments, Director of the Dictionary of International Biography Company. This is the first edition of the ninth instalment of his Music Book series published by Hinrichsen, focussing on the history of one of the eighteenth century's most famous plays, The Beggar's Opera. Olivier starred in the 1953 film adaptation, where he insisted on doing all his own singing despite the other actors being dubbed.
