Written by Walter Johnson, an American historian and professor, and William Wright, an English historian. With a chapter on flint by B. C. Polkinghorne. Illustrated by Sydney Harrowing, a British artist, and Frank Percy Smith, a British naturalist and early nature documentary pioneer. In the original green cloth binding. Externally, smart with light rubbing and minor bumping to the extremities. Fading to the spine and marks to the board. Internally, firmly bound. Pages are very bright and clean with the odd spot.     Watercolour portrait; right profile, middle age, faintly signed and dated 1873. Approx. 28 x 23cm. Framed & glazed. Walter Harrowing, c.1838-1913, was a popular English artist best known for his paintings of animals, in particular horses and dogs.
