Mai 1941 seinen berühmt gewordenen Flug nach Schottland unternahm, gab es viele Möglichkeiten für den Ausgang dieses weltpolitischen Abenteuers. Meines Mannes Maschine konnte über der Nordsee abstürzen, der Fallschirm-Absprung über Schottland das Opfer seines Lebens fordern - es war jedoch auch möglich, daß er sein Ziel ungefährdet erreichen und nicht ausgeschlossen, daß seine selbstgewählte Mission zum Erfolg führen würde. Ebensogut aber konnte er von der englischen Regierung nicht nur abgewiesen, sondern als "Parlamentär" zurückgesandt, dann aber in der Heimat wegen seiner Eigenmächtigkeit erschossen werden. Nichts von alledem geschah. Nur das 1941 kaum Vorstellbare wurde harte Wirklichkeit: Der Mann, der, besessen von dem Gedanken, den Frieden zu ermöglichen, den Zweiten Weltkrieg zu beenden, zum Opfer seines Lebens bereit seine Stellung als deutscher Reichsminister und "Stellvertreter des Führers der NSDAP" von sich warf, wurde Staatsgefangener - heute in Deutschland wie vor fast zwölf Jahren in England. Juni 1900 als Ilse Pröhl in Hannover; 7. September 1995 in Lilienthal) war die Ehefrau des nationalsozialistischen Politikers Rudolf Heß. Nach dem Zweiten Weltkrieg wurde sie auch als Buchautorin bekannt. 1920 lernte Pröhl, die Germanistik und Bibliothekswissenschaften studierte, in einer Münchener Pension Rudolf Heß kennen. Sie gehörte zu den ersten Frauen, die in München an der LMU studieren durften. 1921 trat sie erstmals der NSDAP bei und schloss sich der Partei nach deren Verbot und Neuzulassung erneut zum 1. Dezember 1925 an (Mitgliedsnummer 25.071). Sie fühlte sich von Anfang an zu Rudolf Heß hingezogen, doch Heß ließ sich nur zögernd auf eine Beziehung ein. Er vertröstete sie über Jahre hinweg und ging Intimitäten aus dem Weg. Ilse machte Rudolf Heß mit Adolf Hitler bekannt, der gerne in den Kreisen wohlhabender Damen verkehrte. Hitler gab letztendlich auch den Anstoß zur Eheschließung, die am 20. Dezember 1927 in München stattfand. Hitler war Trauzeuge und auch Taufpate ihres einzigen Kindes Wolf Rüdiger, das am 18. November 1937 geboren wurde. Während der Inhaftierung von Hitler und Heß in der Justizvollzugsanstalt Landsberg holte die in München lebende Ilse die handschriftlichen Manuskripte ihres Mannes - Hitler hatte Heß in der Haft Mein Kampf diktiert - per Fahrrad ab, um sie in München auf einer Erika-Schreibmaschine abzutippen. Frau Ilse Hess leitet das Buch mit einer lebhaft geschriebenen, interessanten Rückschau auf die Jahre 1920-1923 ein, dann gibt sie wieder ihrem Mann das Wort - im Mittelpunkt stehen diesmal zahlreiche Briefe an den heranwachsenden Sohn, die jedem jungen Deutschen viel zu sagen haben. In ihrer Klarheit und Heiterkeitbilden auch diese Briefeein packendes menschliches Dokument von hohem Rang und bleibender Bedeutung. Rudolf Hes (1894-1987) served as Deputy Führer of the Nazi Party until his defection to England in 1941 to arrange peace talks with the Duke of Hamilton. He was arrested immediately and spent the rest of his life in prison.
