Covers are rubbed with uneven fading. Corners are bumped. Rear gutter is cracked through, and front gutter is beginning to split as well, so binding feels fragile. Text block remains securely bound together; no loose signatures. Including a number of fold out pages with black and white figures. A fair reading copy.

Hinges are weak but still well attached. The many b&w illustrations are clean and unmarked. Includes a 2 page map of Germany showing changes made in 1866.
