The first of four collaborative books on nature and the countryside by Wiltshire husband and wife couple, Heather and Robin Tanner, married in 1931. 'Kington Borel' is largely an amalgamation of their home village of Kington Langley and the neighbouring parish of Langley Burrell. The four sections cover the village itself, the crafts, the village year and the people. Heather Tanner (1903-93), teacher and writer, campaigned for peace and social justice in the post war years. Original purple Morocco backed decorative boards with bright gilt lettering on spine.TEXT: by Heather Tanner. ILLUSTRATOR: Robin Tanner. His 27 b/w illustrations were transferred on to blocks for printing by Nicolas McDowall at his press in Blackheath, London. Scarce copy and one which has particular appeal, showing the signatures of the printer and his wife who owned 'The Old Stile Press' and having the additional interest with the enclosed leaflet which they printed in memory of their adopted son, Toby.
