Hardcover with Dust Jacket. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Poor. John Held, Jr. (dust jacket illustration) (illustrator). First Edition. Large 8vo. Pp. [8], 417. Introduction by William Hodapp. Bound in blue cloth with gilt lettering and green pattern stamped on spine. Cloth a touch worn. In the illustrated dust jacket, faded and price-clipped, that's defective: front panel and front flap detached; a third of the rear flap excised. Inscribed by William Hodapp on the front free endpaper. Inscription reads, "To Jack, too young to have known about all this (so was I, really, thank God) but a guy who I think would get a smile out of some of it - + to remember '51. / Regards, Bill". Inexplicably, among the excerpts are those from Hitler and John Maynard Keynes. The dust jacket illustration by John Held, Jr., is a cartoonish send up the 1920s, a tuxedo-wearing swell holding an oversized cocktail shaker grins broadly while his flapper gal-pal shimmies. Dust jacket is now enclosed in a removable, clear archival sleeve.

The third book of the press, designed by William A. Kittredge and printed under his supervision at the Lakeside Press. Introduction by Carl Van Doren. Illustrated with linoleum cuts by John Held, Jr. Of a total of 1500 copies SIGNED by the artist on the colophon page, this copy is not numbered (in place of the number is written in ink "Office Copy") and bears the Club's blindstamp stating it is one of 15 presentation copies. The leather on this binding, often found chipped or dry, is here fairly supple though rubbed in a few places with resulting loss of color. Contents bright and fresh. In our experience one of the most difficult books of the press to locate in fine condition. Still a Very Good or better copy in a close to Fine slipcase.

Paper Boards. Condition: Near fine. The Luncheon for the Honorable Harry S. Truman, held July 2, 1953 at the Waldorf-Astoria in New York City, with a great inscription to his Treasury Secretary, John W. Snyder. The luncheon was hosted by The American Weekly newspaper. (illustrator). Luncheon Menu. Octavo, [8pp]. Printed card stock boards, title printed in black ink. Bound with red, white and blue string. Photograph of Harry Truman in Independence, Missouri, affixed to half title. Includes luncheon menu and a distinguished list of guests. This copy was inscribed to Sec. John Snyder, who was in attendance at the luncheon: "To the greatest Sec. of the Treasury, from his friend, Harry Truman." John W. Snyder (1895-1985) served as the 54th U.S. Secretary of the Treasury from 1946 to 1953 under President Harry S. Truman. Snyder was a close personal friend of Truman, which played a significant role in his appointment. During his tenure, he focused on post-World War II economic stabilization, managing the transition from a wartime to a peacetime economy, and tackling issues related to inflation and the national debt. He was instrumental in the implementation of the Marshall Plan, which aimed to rebuild and revitalize war-torn European economies. Snyder's policies also included maintaining price controls and supporting housing programs to address postwar housing shortages. He left office on January 20, 1953, and remained friends with President Truman until his passing in 1972. Signed.

Hardcover. Condition: Very good condition. First Edition. Complete with 12 black-and-white illustrations. Each illustration is mounted on thick board which is backed with black cloth, and the entirety is hinged in an accordion style binding. The front board has a printed paper label, which is also signed by John Held, Jr. and hand-numbered 56; this label has minor soiling and scuffing. Included is the original linen covered slipcase, with a printed paper label. The slipcase is moderately worn, and has moderate discoloration and foxing, mainly to the back panel. The 12 illustrations are in excellent condition, with the occasional small fleck of discoloration or tiny spot of staining, mainly in the margins, which also occasionally have minor browning along the edges in what appears to be original glue reverse offsetting. The black cloth covering of the boards is unevenly and minimally discolored and spotted, with the hinges themselves remaining intact. The illustrations depict men and women in the act of hunting, horse jumping, fly fishing, golfing, skurfing or water skiing on a board, cross country skiing, parachuting, playing tennis, sailing, playing polo, boxing, and playing chess. Measures almost 12" wide by 11" tall. First and limited edition. Size: Quarto (4to). Signed by Author(s). Book.
