Presumed first edition; 120 opened pages, clean and unmarked on exceptionally fine unaged paper; printed in black with red illumined majuscules in Old English font; beautiful t.p. with William Morris style ornamentation in margin; frontis. portrait of Elbert Hubbard with tissue guard; tipped-in period photos elegantly presented; detached sepia-colored ribbon bookmark; unblemished within, and binding tight, but olive drab boards are scuffed, and the tobacco-colored suede spine is abraded at crown. Handome copy of this lavish 1902 collection of musings from the redoubtable American writer and publisher Elbert Hubbard (1856-1915), who, tragically, died along with his wife Alice Hubbard in the May 1915 sinking of the Lusitania. Bound in the publisher's 1/4 suede over light-gray boards, with gilt-titling along the front panel and spine. Light spotting at the rear panel, a touch of very light soiling to the suede, otherwise clean as could be and, internally, free of any writing or markings of any kind. Quarto, deckled fore and bottom-edges. Beautifully printed throughout; "the ornaments designed by Richard Kruger, pressowrk by Otto Franz and composition by Charles Rosen".
