An Original Highly Collected Large Platinum Studio Portrait Photograph of Henry Williamson by the American photographer Doris Ulmann Taken in 1930. Signed by the photographer to the base of the mount. From the Henry Williamson Family Estate. Original platinum photograph tipped to board, and presented in an archival window-mat. Doris Ulmann (1882-1934) was an extremely well-known American photographer, who specialised in particular subjects: craft-makers such as Appalachian craftsmen; groups such as the Shakers and similar religious sects at work; and also writers. This photograph would have been taken while HW was in New York over the winter of 1930-31, but sadly there are no details whatsoever available. It is known that she invited writers to sit at her apartment on Park Avenue, when she would try to reveal their inner character. There are actually over a dozen poses of HW taken by her. They were used in a number of books including a The Dreamer of Devon. Size of Photograph 200mm x 150mm. Mount size is 360mm x 285mm. More images can be taken upon request. Ref18471.

Small annotation to the front of the book stating that ' pages torn out by someone who borrowed the book in 1942 didn't like the forward' . Most of the forward has been removed. Missing the original dust jacket but Henry Williamson has used the reverse of a book of Communism as the new jacket and added the words in large red letters 'Authors File Copy March 1936 Stolen from Henry Williamson'. He has also added to the rear wrapper flap the words ' This is a cover of a book on communism? HW having a little joke!?'. The books forward that praised Hitler, Fascism and Germany haunted him for the rest of his writing career and still has an effect upon his standing within the literate world today.
