Covers are scuffed, back cover shows mottled discoloration. Binding is cracked and partially detached. Exposed sewn signatures hold pages together. Two detached images, but present. Preliminary page edges are chipped. Text is lightly tanned. Gilt lettering debossed to spine, white lettering to front of illustrated, blue-green, cloth-covered boards. Frontispiece and twelve illustrations by W. H. Margetson and a Map. Clean. 390 pp with 16 pp advertisements to rear of book. An historically accurate tale by G. A. Henty (1832 -- 1902) of the wars between the East India Company and Tippoo, known as the Tiger.

Walter "Wat" Tyler (died 15 June 1381) was a leader of the 1381 Peasants' Revolt in England. He marched a group of rebels from Canterbury to the capital to oppose the institution of a poll tax and demand economic and social reforms. Interior: Princeton Antiques Bookshop bookplate on the front pastedown paper, glue remains also on the front pastedown paper, wear on the front free end paper from the glue remains, age-toned/tanned pages, twelve illustrations and a map. All edges tinted with fading. Good condition considering the age. Henty has focused on the failings of Lord Cornwallis, as he describes the battles in which Tipu Sultan invaded the state of Travancore with French allies, which ended in his defeat at the siege of Serigapatam and the signing of the Treaty which required him to surrender half his kingdom to the British East India Company. The Fourth Anglo-Mysore War resulted in the death of Tipu Sultan, when the British won a decisive victory at the Siege of Seringapatam in 1799. William Henry Margeston (1861-1940) was a noted English painter and illustrator, primarily known for his striking portraits of women.
