Das Manuskript wurde am 28. Oktober des gleichen Jahres anonym unter dem Titel Travels into Several Remote Nations of the World ( Reisen zu mehreren entlegenen Völkern der Welt ), mit sensationellem Erfolg veröffentlicht. Heute ist es ein Buch der Weltliteratur. Der Verfasser des Buchs war, wie sich schnell herumsprach, der schon beinahe sechzigjährige Dekan der Kathedrale des Heiligen Patrick in Dublin, Jonathan Swift, seines Zeichens Doktor der Theologie. Vier phantastische Reisen unternimmt Lemuel Gulliver, der erst Schiffsarzt ist und später Kapitän wird.
