This multiple is by Georg Herold; consists of a piece of concrete block embossed with a radioactivity symbol, enclosed in a titled wooden box; titled "Benton (1994)"; the concrete multiple size: 2-1/2 x 5-1/2 x 2 inches, wooden box size: 7-1/4 x 4-1/4 x 3 inches; published by Texte Zur Kunst, Germany 1994; limited edition to 150 signed & numbered on inside of the wooden box's lid (this is #96/150); also Georg Herold signed & numbered the concrete multiple on bottom; on the inside of the box's lid is affixed a paper label telling the content of radioactive radiation in concrete and other physical data are recorded.; the wooden box has brass hinges; from the Artist: "The residents of the First World, mostly housed in buildings made of concrete, must therefore be assumed to be exposed to radioactivity. Herold wants to initiate any concrete object with his escape and also does not warn of this material, but rather laconic note that there can be no pure, uncontaminated life (and living). But before consequences and only wooden houses are built, the Herald has been immortalized in concrete building a wooden box, where it is packaged carefully remember one day long past residential and Baugewohnheiten."; OF INTEREST: The Aldrich Museum's 2008 included a work by George Herold in an exhibition titled "X-6 New Directions in Multiples"; some of the other artist represented in the exhibition: Dan Flavin, Joseph Kosuth, Cindy Sherman, George Segal, Christo, Richard Hamilton, and more; he has also had an exhibition at the Friedrich Petzel Gallery in 2006; what appears to be rubbing to the top is the way the coating dried and was handled by the manufacturer; purchased directly from Texte zur Kunst and it has only been taken out of Texte zur Kunst's original wrapping to photograph; in VERY GOOD COND.
