Illustrated endpapers showing cross section of earth and oil field naming different implements of machinery and levels of sub surface. 183 pp. Very collectible novel of oil drilling in the American southwest in the 1920's. 17 year old Rock Weston works for his father's oil company in the Mojave Desert and has to deal with several unsavory characters before bringing in one of the richest oil wells of all time on Signal Hill.
