Half Calf Leather. Condition: Good. Mrs. Charles Hetley (illustrator). First Edition. FIRST EDITION. Part 1 of 3 parts. Half calf leather with gilt lettered title on front cover. Dentelling to the corners. Spine is deteriorated and lacking 1/3. The remaining spine is barely attached. This book is lacking title page. This includes 12 full color chromolithograph plates of flowers interleaved with 12 pages of text and 1 introductory guide giving summaries of this, part 1, of the famous Native Flowers of New Zealand. The plates are in EXCELLENT CONDITION. Good breaker copy. Georgina Hetley learned to love the flowers and ferns of the Taranaki bush before her husband died and she was forced her to leave for Auckland and a new life as an artist. She gained a good reputation in the field of floral painting. The idea for this flower book was encouraged by both botanists and the New Zealand Government. Hetley endured the rigours of travel involved in painting her specimens wherever they grew. Overall in GOOD condition. Size: Folio - over 12" - 15" tall. Hardcover.
