15 1/4 x 12 in., paper over boards, 88 pp. Featuring photographs by Elizabeth Heyert, Heyert in conversation with Lesley M. M. Blume, and a short story by Colm Tóibín. Elizabeth Heyert, known for her experimental portraits, engages the question of the subconscious and memory in Metamorphosis (2012-2023). This series of photographs features people in hypnotic trances or other states of subconscious transformation, printed as cyanotypes, gelatin silver prints, or color photogravures. The works were photographed in three studios in New York using a 8 x 10 Deardorff view camera, and color and black-and-white negative film. The original cyanotypes were printed by Chuck Kelton, original gelatin silver photographs by Laurent Girard, and original color photogravures by Lothar Osterburg. The series of portraits is followed by an artists' conversation with journalist and historian Lesley M. M. Blume, that delves further into Heyert's process of utilizing hypnosis and conceptualizing the contents of the photographic series. In addition to this, a short story by Tóibín titled "Sleep" is included. Together, these contents form an environment of experience and context alongside the lush prints of the photographic series itself. The book was designed by Leslie Miller, and printed by Triofolio Srl, in Verona, Italy. It was published at the same time as an exhibition of Heyert's art at Daniel Cooney Fine Art in Chelsea, New York City. As new.
