Soft cover. Condition: Good. Glencoe Housekeepers' Club. Regional cookbook title, Glencoe Housekeepers' Club Cook Book of Tested Recipes 1925 (Glencoe, MN: Glencoe Housekeepers' Club, 1925). Stiff paper covers, bound with two metal snap ring clasps; [5], 103, [11] pp, including 12 pages of regional Glencoe business advertisements; several blank pages are inserted between numbered pages to allow for handwritten recipes to be added to the cook book; measures 6 x 9 inches. The stiff paper covers and internal pages are a tan color; the front cover shows some toning around the edges and is chipped along the edges and lower right corner; front cover and first interior leaf is torn away from the snap ring clasps, but are present. Overall, this scarce cook book (only one found listed in OCLC at the University of Denver library and none found for sale on-line) is in VG to VG+ condition. [22-414] The cook book contains recipes for beverages; bread, rolls and muffins; cakes; candy; cocktails; cookies and doughnuts; desserts, puddings and sauces; fish and sauces; frozen desserts; icings and fillings; luncheon dishes; meats; pies; pickles; poultry, game and dressing; preserves; salads and dressings; sandwiches; soups; and vegetables. In addition, there are four pages of handwritten recipes (including one on the back cover) and one slip of paper inserted with a handwritten recipe for Plain Cookies. The names of the women who submitted selected recipes are included with their submittal(s). There is an advertisement along the top of each numbered page advertising Knox Gelatine. Glencoe is the county seat of McLeod County, Minnesota, and is located just a little over 50 miles west of Minneapolis. The community, laid out in 1855, was subsequently incorporated and in 1909 adopted its city charter. At the time of the printing of this cook book, the population of Glencoe was around 1,800 (there are currently just a little under 6,000 residents today). The cover indicates that the Glencoe Housekeepers' Club was organized in 1916 and federated in 1917. The 1919 Register of Women's Clubs in America listed the Glencoe Housekeepers' Club as having 25 members and Mrs. W. E. Churchill as its president. Mrs. Churchill was one of the many contributing "Housekeepers" contributing recipes to this regional cookbook.
