Octavo (*8 1/2" x 5 3/4"0 bound in original publisher's quarter brown cloth with blue lettering to spine over blue boards in original pictorial jacket. First edition. A rash of political deaths alerts a New York cop to an international ass…assination plot. At a crime scene, Harry Golding has no fear. But put him in front of a few dozen undergraduates, and he begins to sweat. He agrees to give the lecture on criminology for his brother, a New York University professor, and muddles through it, successful until it comes time for questions. A skinny young conspiracy theorist demands to know what the police are doing about the recent death of a presidential candidate. The answer is, they're doing nothing. The man died of a heart attack. Case closed. But when another politician drops dead, seemingly of natural causes, Golding remembers the young student's paranoia. As more politicians die, Harry Golding finds himself in the middle of a terrifying conspiracy that threatens his city, his family, and his life. Octavo (8 1/2" x 5 3/4") bound in original publisher's quarter black cloth with gilt lettering to spine in original pictorial jacket. First edition. Rain has spoiled Masao Masuto's vacation. For six days the storm has trapped the Zen Buddh…ist detective and his family inside their Los Angeles cottage. By the morning of his vacation's final day, he is so stir crazy that the call to come to work is a relief. Detective Masuto knows no better cure for boredom than a puzzling murder. Nothing remains of the deceased man but his bones. A mudslide caused by the long, punishing storm destroyed the terrace of a Beverly Hills mansion, dislodging the swimming pool and opening a grave which had been covered for three decades. The skeleton's deep stab wound suggests a professional's handpossibly a World War II veteran with commando training. As Masuto pries into the past, the aged murderer takes deadly steps to cover up his long-forgotten crime. The detective finds himself locked in a game of cat and mouse with a brilliant and ruthless killer. Condition: A Very good copy in a near fine jacket.

Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good+. 1st Edition; 1st Printing. This book is in Near Fine condition and has a Very Good+ to Near Fine- dust jacket. The book and its contents are in clean, bright condition. The text pages are clean and bright. The dust jacket has a couple of beginning nicks and rubb…ed spots to the spine ends and corners. "While he was at Mill Point Federal Prison, Fast began writing his most famous work, Spartacus, a novel about an uprising among Roman slaves. Blacklisted by major publishing houses following his release from prison, Fast was forced to publish the novel himself. It was a success, going through seven printings in the first four months of publication. (According to Fast in his memoir, 50,000 copies were printed, of which 48,000 were sold. ) He subsequently established the Blue Heron Press, which allowed him to continue publishing under his own name throughout the period of his blacklisting. Just as the production of the film version of Spartacus (released in 1960) is considered a milestone in the breaking of the Hollywood blacklist, the reissue of Fast's novel by Crown Publishers in 1958 effectively ended his own blacklisting within the American publishing industry."
