Hardcover. Condition: USED_FAIR. Dust Jacket Condition: Fair. ix, [1], 11-44, [2] p. 22 cm. B&w illustrations. Pink cloth in mylar-covered pictorial dustjacket. Some soiling and chips to jacket. Also some soiling to inside, especially to p. 17, the last page of text, and rear endpapers. Tiny tear in bottom of p. 37. First published in 1876, this fanciful eight-canto poem describes the sea voyage of a bellman, boots, bonnet maker, barrister, broker, billiard marker, banker, beaver, baker, and butcher on a search for the elusive snark. Here the epic is illustrated by Mervyn Peake, who is said to have been paid only £ 5 for his work. If so, it seems a pity, for Peake's goofy pictures are the perfect accompaniment to Carroll's nonsense. First Edition with illustrations by Peake.
