Lovely copy in a very nice contemporary binding with the original wrappers bound in; #77 of a total of 378 copies printed. The initials N.K. are stamped in gilt at the foot of the spine, and the book is from the library of Dr. Nina Kivelson Auerbach, a San Francisco psychiatrist whose style was admired by all. Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. 1st Edition. Binding by Jeanne P. Venit perfectly executed in full salmon morocco, the front cover with a composition of mosaic morocco in several colors, depicting one of the characters from Musset on a staircase. One of 330 numbered copies illustrated by the Russian artist Vasilii Ivanovich Shukhaev (1887-1973) with 19 original color compositions including vignettes in the text and 9 outside the text lithographed in colors. Slight bump one corner.
