Published for the Members of the Royal Association for the Promotion of the Fine Arts in Scotland, 1860. First edition. A large folio format, with green cloth hardback covers with gilt design. Some shelf wear and bumping. Previous owner's details have been scratched off first pastedown. Endpapers split to webbing but all still bound. A fair to good copy. The book features the Ballad of The Dowie Dens o' Yarrow in text, with individual verses highlighted and illustrated with lovely fine engravings. Text pages are age toned with minor marks. The engravings have some foxing around the edges with the images themselves remaining clean and bright. Text in English/Scots. Unnumbered, but contains; 1pp title + 1pp Preface + 4pp the Ballad. Followed by 6 engravings on heavier stock, each preceded with a verse page and blank guard. Dimensions: Approx 436mm high x 308mm wide x 8mm deep. Weight: Approximately 810g (unpacked). Hardcover. Condition: Good. First Edition. Quarto, 9 7/8" tall, xiv + 268 pages + 4 ads; marbled endpapers, gilt fore-edges, gilt titles and decorations on full, 5 banded decorative leather. A good copy only overall, front hinge cracked but holding, rubbing at the corners, top leather of the back strip cracked through at the hinge, internal binding solid, paper moderately yellowed with scattered foxing throughout. With all that, still a very impressive copy.
