Illustration of Peterborough astride cannon barrel on front board; musketman illustration on spine.

Some edge wear, chipping, short closed tears and creasing to top and bottom of largely turquoise jacket and spine, corners rubbed with tiny loss, not price clipped ($2.75), no inscriptions, some faint offsetting to endpapers, otherwise internally clean tight and square, overall a vg+ copy for its age. 191pp, illustrated. Ulam a Chumash Indian boy, faces hardship and adventure as he grows up among his people. Others in his tribe call him 'the Weak One'. But Ulam is not weak in spirit. He works hard to make himself strong and worthy to be a man, and by his faith and courage he saves the life of Tobuco the Chief. American children's author Elsa Falk (1888-1977), now sadly mostly forgotten, specialised in stories of the Native Americans. Quite a scarce book.

Thick 8vo. 7½'' x 5½''. This is the last L. T. Meade listed title of books (1916) preceded by 'The Daughter of a Soldier' (1915). Contains paper-guarded frontispiece, 399 with a further 7 full-page single-sided charming monochrome illustrations throughout by William Rainey.
