Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. INSCRIBED BY IRWIN SHAW on the front free endpaper. A solid copy to boot of the 1950 1st edition. Clean and VG to VG+ in its dark-blue cloth over black boards. Light rubbing along the spine, very light wear at the spine crown. Just a touch of abrading to the rear fore-edge. Quarto, with the powerful, evocative black-and-white photos of Robert Capa complementing Irwin Shaw's text. Uncommon signed by either Shaw or Capa.
