Taylor glaubte, dass die Kelten (große Statur, runde Köpfe), ein Zweig der alten Finnen , die einzigen wahren Arier waren, die die Iberer (kleine Statur, lange Köpfe), die Skandinavier (große Statur, lange Köpfe) und die Ligurer (kleine Statur, runde Köpfe) arisiert hätten. John Dunmore Lang's copy of Isaac Taylor's first book (being the 2nd Ed. 1824), flat-signed by Lang to title page; the text is an exploration of philosophical logic and general philosophical thinking (general notions, abstract notions, analysis/classification etc); Taylor was trained as a draughtsman and engraver, before turning to literature and philosophy; John Dunmore Lang needs little introduction - a legendary figure in 19th-Century Australia, writer, historian, clergyman, educator, and early advocate of an Australian Republic; the book itself is bound in 3/4 calf with gilt titling to spine, marbled boards; tanning to endpapers, scattered foxing (heavy to prelims and title page), G-VG throughout. no dustwrapper. 208pp. 12mo. Hardcover. Condition: Poor. No Jacket. 1st Edition. 1825 first edition copy of Memoirs and Poetical Remains of the late Jane Taylor: with extracts from her correspondence. Inscribed and signed by Jane Taylor below silhouette frontispiece. Two volumes bound as one, sadly in poor condition. Original marble boards however the leather spine/title area has disintegrated and separated over time and the book will therefore need recovering. (The original spine covering is included inside the cover). The book has suffered water damage previously and maintains a damp smell and staining. Internally however the pages are tight and complete and in relatively clean condition. Some occasional pencil margin marks to paragraphs. Inscribed by Author(s).

On back cover of dust jacket is a letter addressed to Isaac Headland dated October 24, 1900, by Wu Ting Fang, Chinese Minister to the United States, singing praises of Headland's "Chinese Mother Goose Rhymes" as "so richly illustrated that we are sure it will delight the hearts of all children." Dated "Amen Corner" [February, 1835] [with one page of draft response from the recipient on fourth page. ] Concerning the steeling of a legal matter. Isaac Taylor (1787-1865) was an English philosophical and historical writer, artist, and inventor. In 1825 he settled at Stanford Rivers, about two miles from Ongar, in a rambling old-fashioned farmhouse. Taylor was interested in mechanical devices and inventions, and he had workshop that he fitted up at Stanford Rivers. Early in life he invented a beer-tap (patented 20 November 1824) which came into wide use, and he designed a machine for engraving on copper (pat. 12248, 21 August 1848). Originally trained as an artist, Isaac Taylor at an early age abandoned his profession for that literary career in which so many members of his family had attained distinction. Taylor translated and wrote books including, Natural History of Enthusiasm (published in 1829 anonymously) and was reprinted with eight or nine editions. Taylor was granted a civil list pension of £200 in 1862 as acknowledgment of his services to literature, and he died at Stanford Rivers three years later, on 28 June 1865.; Manuscripts; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 2 pages; Signed by Author.
