Biography of Ima Hogg (1882 - 1975) told through "reminiscences and recollections of family and friends". Known as "The First Lady of Texas", she was an American philanthropist, patron and collector of the arts of such stature that she was one of the most admired of women in Texas during the 20th century. The discovery of oil on her family's plantation brought great wealth, and she used this income to benefit the people of Texas. In 1929, she founded the Houston Child Guidance Center, and established the Hogg Foundation for Mental Health at the Univ of Texas at Austin in 1940. On her death the Ima Hogg Foundation was the major beneficiary of her will, and continues her philanthropic work. Very fine copy.
