Paperback. Condition: Good. Young Jack Laney wakes on an ordinary morning in early summer to the familiar sounds and smells that populate his small world. Taking his time to savor it all and dream for a moment of what the day might bring, he is unaware that he will soon be uprooted from the people and places and things that have given him life and security and happiness. When the reality finally sinks in the resulting struggle heightens each and every experience of his last months in familiar surroundings and amplifies the importance of every moment. He finds his desire to hang on is as strong as his need to let go. Where there was once just a girl from the neighboring farm there is now a mystery, where before there were three old ladies he was forced to visit in the dimness of a room they have not left for many years there are now three great aunts who reveal lives and loves and dreams he had never imagined to be a part of their lives. The young boy's story and where he finds himself reveals a greater story of many loves and many losses, of youth and first love, of adult wisdom, of nurturing and of family. For our hero it is a story fraught with the thrill and the pain of coming of age with all of its many rights of passage. Yet, it is also the story of those who came before him and how they shaped his life.…

Paperback. Condition: Very Good. The Special Edition is an addition to the Destroying the Homeland original book.Talking points and exaggeration have always played a role in politicking, but rarely have the office of the President, the media complex, and backstage operatives been so adroit and so cynical in their use of vitriol. The Democrat Party and surrogates hatred, slander, judicial persecution, and violent commentary have all contributed to the attempted assassination of Donald Trump, a former President, political opponent, and Republican front-runner. What did you think was going to happen after years of lies and political and character assassination, 'America'? I contend this was a planned strategy to eventuate such an outcome, not to mention the suspicious lapse in security that unfolded. The Special Edition series will also address the central issue of America's survivability domestically and globally as a hegemonic leader, maintaining our Judeo-Christian value system, preserving our constitutional framework, and existing socially as one nation under a unified flag. The equality, sabotage, and social experiment involving African Americans will also be explored, as this group has been exploited for political gain. The United States is confronted with three existential challenges: ideological, political, and religious conflicts fueled by diverse factions within and internationally. Furthermore, our military actions are intertwined in the political, religious, and ideological conflict, mandated to safeguard American hegemony and contend with the threat from the great powers.…

Paperback. Condition: Very Good. Nick McCord receives a disturbing call from his old friend, Tom Walker. Nick takes time off from his job as a Milwaukee policeman and goes to Gill's Point Lodge on the shore of Lake Michigan. Tom told him about a body found on the beach incased in ice, and that the body is that of Elizabeth Samuelson who disappeared a hundred years ago. He is also told of strange sounds and ghostly figures in the lodge. Finding the tale hard to believe, Nick agreed to look into it. Monica Barnhart, a history professor, who was there to research the history of the lodge provides Nick with its background. She joins him in the search to find out what was happening. Although it was believed that the lodge had been built by Captain Bartholomew Samuelson as a summer home for his wife Elizabeth, they discover the real reason the home was built. Nick and Monica found it interesting that several of the guests at the lodge were related to the captain. Murder at Gill's Point is a mystery story that is told by Nick McCord. It is the first in a series of Nick McCord mysteries.…

Hardback. Condition: Very Good. Recreation without Humiliation is the first comprehensive study of Black amusement venues established by Black Americans for Black Americans. Mary Stanton's extensive research on African American amusement parks in America explores not only segregation, class, and social barriers but also the notion of the 'pursuit of happiness' as an inalienable right for all races and classes of people. Inspired by summers spent on Coney Island, where Stanton became curious about the existence of African American amusement parks in America, Stanton's research uncovered more than fifty such venues, most of which operated during the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. These were parks, theaters, juke joints, country clubs, summer colonies, baseball diamonds, and arenas. Although these venues provided much needed recreational services to an underserved Black population, many were threatened by whites, and some destroyed by them. Through her study of these sites of recreation, Stanton illuminates the history of African Americans who strove to create and maintain safe and satisfying entertainment despite segregation. In her research, Stanton also found class divisions among Black American entertainment venues. At the pinnacle of Black society in this era were the upper class, who could afford exclusive Black summer cottages and country clubs. General entertainment for Black working-class families consisted of dancing and drinking in juke joints or patronizing small amusement parks, playgrounds, movie theaters, church-sponsored functions, and Black county fairs. African Americans in the twentieth century, especially in the South, transformed segregation into what historian Earl Lewis calls congregation. Congregation implies choice, and this congregation provided space and support for establishing new amusements, entertainments, music, and dance without interference or oppression. Sprague, Rachel J E (illustrator).…

Which can be dangerous when giants and clever kings challenge Abe to prove his might This fractured retelling of a The Valiant Little Tailor, a lesser-known tale from the Brothers Grimm, will make readers giggle, groan, and gasp with delight. Paperback. Condition: Good. What can one expect to gain from reading this book? You may find something of great value in every chapter. Who are the intended recipients of this book? Everyone from student to seminarian or sales clerk to scholar can find enjoyment, encouragement and tools of empowerment enclosed within these pages. Who will not benefit from reading of this book? No one is exempt from the benefits afforded unto him or her by the reading of this spiritually reassuring, emotionally revitalizing, and devotionally rewarding book, which has been carefully constructed to be of counsel to all. I designed this book with three basic contentions in mind. First, I hope to encourage readers with examples towards excellence singled out from select scripture passages proving that ordinary people can overcome extraordinary odds through exemplary faith. Second, I hope to equip readers through a series of simple, subjective, and straightforward ideas for everyday empowerment. These ideas are intended not so much as to change individuals, but to challenge them to make better choices (thereby producing better outcomes in the future than those experienced in the past as a result of poor decision making). Third, and finally, I hope this work will serve as a tool of empowerment to some, a resource of assistance to others, and as a work that, in its witness, wealth of ideas, and unique writing perspective, will provide enjoyment to all.…

Paperback. Condition: Fair. J. E. Gordon "I was thoroughly charmed and won over by this book which I now recommend to all my colleagues."--Daniel C. Mattis, American Journal of Physics"Princeton has brought to the public a highly readable treatise on the science of materials that emphasizes the strength of chemical and physical bonds, crystal structure, and cracks. . . . The author admits the necessity of being highly selective in the materials he can discuss so broadly, but he ably presents chemical and physical problems and how they have been solved in an orderly fashion, and he shows that the strength of materials is influenced as much by their environment and loading systems as by their own structures and shapes."--S.
