An interesting and wonderfully illustrated book detailing the history and culture of parts of China, with chapters detailing various cities or interesting portions of recent Chinese history, every chapter ends with a beautiful engraving by Degouy, and starts with a highly stylised letter, a large illustrated map is found opposite the title page.
