Contact seller5-star sellerArchive of 5 vintage single weight press photographs from a press gala for the 1960 French film, here under the original French title. All rubber-stamped on the verso, crediting photographer Jungmann, and all but one show director Lamorisse on-stage behind a microphone with an official from the gala, with one photo featuring smi…ling colleagues seated at a dining table. Housed in an original Jungmann mailing envelope, addressed to Maryse Martres in manuscript ink, with a memo on Cinedis parchment from "F. Willkomm," signed by him in manuscript ink, and dated December 30, 1960, noting that the images portray Lamorisse while he visited Strasbourg for the gala. Also included is a carbon typescript letter from Martres to Lamorisse, citing the inclusion of travel tickets to Strasbourg and Marseilles, and various press events to occur. A welcome addition to the director's mostly unseen oeuvre. Little is known of Willkomm, but the memo does bear his rubber-stamp, crediting him as the Cinedis director of the Strasbourg location. Martres (Martin) was a prolific French actress since 1948, notably "Girl on the Third Floor" (1955) and "The Happy Road" (1957), and she was later involved in press relations at Cinedis, a notable film agency in operation since the Silent Film era. Kishi was born in 1932 and became a Japanese actress and writer. She married director Ciampi in 1957. Since 1996 she has been a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). Photographer Jungmann is equally obscure, but seems to have been prolific in the 1960s, mostly for press relations. Director Lamorisse starred his own son, Pascal, as a boy who stows away on his grandfather's (Gille) hot-air balloon that is less controllable than suspected. They narrowly escape church spires, and snag clotheslines and party guests, Pascal enjoying every minute. Lemmon narrated the English version, and subsequently bought the rights to the film. Winner of an OCIC Award at the 1960 Venice Film Festival. Photos 5 x 7 inches, small white borders, Near Fine. Envelope and memo slightly larger, Very Good plus overall. Carbon typescript 8.25 x 10.5 inches, pink stock, Very Good plus.

Contact seller5-star sellerArchive of 38 vintage black-and-white press photographs of actress Francoise Arnoul at a release party for the 1956 French-Italian film at the Cinema des Arcades. All photos with annotations on the verso in manuscript pencil. Photographed by Jean Jungmann and developed in his Strasbourg photography store, Portrait d'Art, with hi…s imprint in the lower right of the photos, and all inside an original envelope from the story. Arnoul is seen signing autographs, gracefully smoking a cigarette, and accepting flowers on stage, as well as cavorting with costars of the film, including French-Armenian director Verneuil. Fracoise (Arnoul) is a hotel employee, smitten with a valet named Gerard (Risso), and may or may not be related to wealthy businessman, Henri (Boyer), Gerard's boss. Arnoul's last collaboration with director Verneuil, the others being "Forbidden Fruit" (1952), "The Sheep Has Five Legs" (1954), "The Lovers of Lisbon" (1955), and "People of No importance" (1956). 5 x 7 inches. Very Good plus overall, with moderate curling. Envelope Good.

Contact seller5-star sellerCollection of 18 original single weight press photographs from a gala surrounding the 1961 French-Italian-West German-Japanese film. Most of the photos represent actress Kishi, here as "Kiski," in kimono, and director Ciampi, on-stage behind a microphone and signing autographs, presumably at the French premiere. Several photogra…phs are rubber-stamped on the versos, crediting photographer Jungmann or Andre, also for Bar-le-Duc. Also included are a few leaves documenting travel expenses and locations associated with the film, and a memo mentioning Kishi's travels, signed by "F. Willkomm" at Cinedis, the film's distribution company, addressed to Maryse Martres, dated May 29, 1961. All photos and memo housed in original mailing envelopes with annotations in manuscript ink on the recto of the larger. Little is known of Willkomm, but Martres (Martin) was a prolific French actress since 1948, notably "Girl on the Third Floor" (1955) and "The Happy Road" (1957), and she was later involved in press relations at Cinedis, a notable film agency in operation since the Silent Film era. Kishi was born in 1932 and became a Japanese actress and writer. She married director Ciampi in 1957. Since 1996 she has been a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA). Based on the true story of Richard Sorge, who was a spy for the USSR, working at the German Embassy in Japan between 1935 and 1943. Holtzman plays Sorge, and Kishi plays Yuki, presumably involved with Sorge romantically and within the workings of his spy ring. Sorge's story was adapted once more, "Spy Sorge (2003), a Japanese film directed by Masahiro Shinoda. Photos range from 3.5 x 6 inches to 7 x 9 inches, several with white borders. Very Good plus overall, slight curling and light creasing. Envelopes, memo, and travel ephemera Very Good overall.

All photographs housed in a large brown folder with the French title in manuscript ink on the flap. Based on Hal Ellson's groundbreaking 1950 cult novel "T…omboy." Dan (Gaubert) is a tough gang leader who dresses and fights like a man. She and two others, including Babar (Bras) are ostracized due to their behavior, and she falls in love with Lucky (Cafarelli) while Babar commits suicide. A late entry for film noir regular and poetic realist Carné, whose notable credits include "Port of Shadows" (1938), "The Devil's Envoys" (1942), and "Children of Paradise" (1945). Set in Paris. Photos range in size from 4.75 x 6.75 inches to 9 x 11.25 inches. Very Good plus overall, foxing to versos, light curling and rubbing.
