Aside from the fact that the author was a scholarly individual, and was addressing a chapter of the American Medical Association, I don't know why he chose to use a Latin title for this article which is in English. Translated loosely: BRIGHT FLAME OF EARLY MEDICAL PRACTICE IN KENTUCKY. The article includes brief histories of Transylvania Medical College and Louisville Medical School, and notices of some of Kentucky's outstanding physicians of the period, including Daniel Drake, Charles Caldwell, Walter Brashear, Ephraim McDowell, and Benjamin W. Dudley.
