Portrait of Mary Henrietta Stuart (1631-1660), Princess of Orange, three-quarter length, standing directed to left and looking towards the viewer, with curly hair, wearing a dress with lace collar and cuffs, leaning on a chair, a curtain beyond; within a niche.Van Dyck painted many portraits of Princess Mary, but none in this exact pose and dress are known. Here the princess was ten years old, about the time when she married William II of Orange. Two years after the marriage, Mary moved to The Hague, at the Binnenhof, where some rooms were specially decorated for her, namely a luxurious bedroom (the decorated wooden ceiling is now in the depot of the Rijksmuseum), and the cabinet.
