Soft cover. Condition: Very Good to Fine. Hal Ashmead painted Cover. (illustrator). FIRST Edition Hardcover. 254 pages. " In the Stanley Cup Final a team's chances to win it all take a direct hit when the captain's ex-girlfriend is responsible for a scandal that isn't going to go away. Whoever wrote the back cover copy is a mushbrain who understands exactly squat about hockey, and proves it with "To cinch the game, they opt for a power play -- and lose." Goodreads: He looked down along his body, at the flat, muscled abdomen and the long, jagged fading scar across it. He remembered the night that had happened, a Sunday night seven years ago. He had been speared, hooked with the toe of a stick in the hands of a rookie defenseman who had not survived that one season in the NHL before being shipped back to the minors for good. He remembered coming out of the anesthetic in the strange hospital room, and the doctors hovering around him and, much later, the long days of pain. This is the story of a hockey player at Stanley Cup time-an old pro whose passion for the game is as strong as the ice he once skated on as a child. And of his girl-a lovely entertainer who sought to establish a life apart from this man's violent world of professional sport. Les Burton, captain of the Falcons, is a veteran of many seasons on the ice. A sensitive man, he simply can't dismiss the beautiful, high-flying Lori Adams from his mind, despite the gulf now separating their two lives. Then, right in the middle of the playoffs, she attempts suicide. Power Play is a novel by John Craig, who knows the game of hockey and loves it and writes better about it than anyone who's ever done so. Power Play is also an honest story-one which recognizes that big sport is big business, and yet, at the same time, one which places no small value on lasting relationships. Full of the real world, its action is telling and so are its people. ** Minor Cover creasing; surface scratching to covers; spine slant; Size: 12mo - over 6¾ - 7¾" tall. Book.

Now Garden Design captures this wisdom and style in a book that delights the senses and enriches the mind. This book of visions for the new gardener. The man or woman who -- like most of us -- longs to create a special place within the world of nature. Step-by-step, from essential design elements to offbeat flourishes, from the all-important conception of an overarching design plan (the hallmark of a successful garden, be it minimal and Japanese in style or an exuberant English countryside profusion of color and shape) to the basics of planting and cultivating, from the habits and personalities of both rare and common plants to suggestions on the best ways to make the most of limited growing space (crucial to land-deprived city dwellers). Cheryl Merser and the editors of Garden Design magazine explain the new garden: What is it, exactly? And what makes it grow? From first seed to first frost -- season after season -- The Garden Design Book takes us through the sometimes complex, sometimes blessedly simple, but always rewarding experience that is gardening. ; slight bump to title page, else FINE/FINE. Seller: Yesterday's Book Shop, Corvallis, OR, U.S.A.
First Edition
Hardcover. Condition: Good+. 1st Edition. See photos for condition details. Hardcover, original 1831 publication in full leather binding. Exterior shows quite a bit of wear to the leather along with scuffs, scrapes, and soiling. Spine contains two labels with the top one reading Ashmead's Reports and the lower one "Rush, Hallowell, King". Interior binding is good and text pages are tight with no hinge issues found. Front pastedown and end page contains a bit of penciling, likely from an old bookseller. Pastedown also contains the nameplate of Benjamin Rand. No other handwriting found in the book. Pages are toned due to age and foxing and spotting is present. Some pages are quite darkened and page 25 through 50 seemed to be some of the worst. Note: this is the original publication from the 1800s and not a modern reprint. This is volume 1 only as each volume was published independent of each other and over a range of multiple years.
