Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. 1st Edition. First Edition (NAP). Signed and inscribed on the first front end paper ( 'To Mr. H.E. Spitsbergen, with compliments of Spencer Heath'). You can see the covers in the photos. The front cover has a few small areas of color fading. The gilt design on the front is very bright, same goes for the gilt lettering on the spine. The edges and corners look very good. The page edges are clean. The book is square (the spine is straight) and very solidly bound from cover to cover with nicely tight pages throughout. There are no binding issues. The pages are exceptionally clean. In scrolling through I didn't see any instances of soiling. There is a uniform toning at the margins. I'm not seeing any conspicuous creasing. There's a three page fold-out titled Hypothetical Distribution Of National Income which is in excellent condition. There is a tiny little bookseller stamp (Bell's Books, Palo Alto) off the bottom edge of the rear inside cover. Off the bottom edge of the front inside cover there is a tiny bookseller label. There are no other markings or attachments to be found anywhere in the book. And with the exception of the author's signed inscription, no one has written their name or anything else anywhere. 'A welcome exposition of fundamental, hard-hitting libertarian principle'---The National Review 'It is impossible to express my delight. This is the book I have been wanting, waiting for, indeed weakly yelling in print for: an empirical, scientific approach to 'social science'. I am happier than larks ever were, now that it is written.'-- Rose Wilder Lane 'A book of the first importance. An outstanding contribution to a crucial problem of our time.'-- Roscoe Pound, Dean Emeritus Harvard Law School. 'Spencer Heath was an American engineer, attorney, inventor, manufacturer, horticulturalist, poet, philosopher of science and social thinker. A dissenter from Georgist economic views, he pioneered the theory of proprietary governance and community in his book Citadel, Market and Altar. His grandson, Spencer Heath MacCallum, popularized and expounded on his ideas, most notably in his book The Art of Community.'. Inscribed by Author(s).

Hardcover. Condition: Near Fine. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. 1st Edition. First Edition (NAP). Signed and inscribed on the first front end paper to the former Assistant Secretary Of War and US High Commissioner to Postwar Germany, John J. McCloy. The inscription reads 'To Mr. John J. McCloy, With the very high compliments of Spencer Heath, November, 1957' ). You can see the covers of the book in the photos. They are quite clean. The gilt design on the front is very bright, same goes for the gilt lettering on the spine. The edges and corners are in excellent shape, no rubbing on the edges, one speck-sized spot of rub-through on the inside front covers bottom corner. The page edges are clean. The book is square and the spine looks pretty straight. The binding is very solid from cover to cover with nicely tight pages throughout and nicely tight covers as well. The text pages are exceptionally clean. In scrolling through I didn't see any instances of soiling. There is some light spotting just off the top edges of the front inside cover and facing signed front end paper. I'm not seeing any conspicuous creasing, no placeholder creases. On a dozen or so consecutive pages there is a very light and tiny crease just below the tips of their top corners. There's a three page fold-out titled Hypothetical Distribution Of National Income which is in excellent condition. There are no markings or attachments to be found anywhere in the book. And there is no writing other than the author's signed inscription. You can see the dust jacket in the first few photos. It is in decent enough shape, though it has several flaws accounting for my only Good Minus rating. It looks pretty clean, though there is toning in a few places. The flaws are: the small loss off the top edge of the spine, the chip and small tear off the top edge of the rear, a thin tear off the top edge at the juncture between the rear cover and rear flap, a tiny tear off the top edge of the rear flap, and some erosion of the paper off the top and middle edge of the rear cover including two tiny holes. The flaps are in solid condition, toning off the top edges. The jacket is NOT priced-clipped, not clipped at all. I have it in a fitted protective cover. 'A welcome exposition of fundamental, hard-hitting libertarian principle'---The National Review 'It is impossible to express my delight. This is the book I have been wanting, waiting for, indeed weakly yelling in print for: an empirical, scientific approach to 'social science'. The collection aged and worn, with fraying to edges. The items attached with a brass stud. Regarding the two recipients, prominent solicitors serving the Irish and Roman Catholic interests in London, Philip Witham (1843-1921) - whose firm was Roskell, Witham, Munster and Weld - appears to have succeed F. R. Ward at 1 Gray's Inn Square. The main topic of the correspondence is the drafting in 1888 of Stonor's will. Other topics include: an allowance to a family member, and a request for information about a London solicitor visiting Rome. The other four items in the collection are: ALS to Stonor from Ward; carbon copy of ALS to Stonor from Witham; two ALsS to Witham from the judge Henry James Stonor (1820-1908; Who Was Who), in one of which (21 June 1896) he discusses the Bishop's role as 'a kind of "Chargé d'affaires" for all the English Catholics Lays & secular & then friends', for whom he 'does all he can', considering that 'he ought to be assisted'.
