ABOUT CONCORDIA YAWLS The Concordia yawl is a class of wooden sailboat designed for cruising and racing in rough conditions. Naval architect C. Raymond Hunt designed the first Concordia yawl in 1938 for Llewellyn Howland, who wanted a replacement for his family's Norwegian pilot cutter destroyed in a hurricane. The Concordia Company, founded by Howland in 1926, built the boat to his specifications. Howland wanted a sailboat that could be used for both cruising and racing and withstand the heavy wind and choppy waters of Buzzards Bay. Design: 39'10" or 41' long, with a spoon bow, slim hull, midships tumblehome, yawl rig, and counter stern. Construction: wood. Concordia yawls reached iconic status for their aesthetic, design and construction qualities, which have all ensured their enduring appeal and longevity. All of the 103 original yawls survive today (plus one more launched in 2019), a testament to the care and skill of generations of Concordia owners, families and artisans. Over the years, the Concordia yawl has won numerous races including the prestigious Newport Bermuda Race. CONDITION REPORT The book is VERY GOOD++ Firm binding, colorful, fresh linen.
