No Binding. Condition: Near Fine. "Small size" edition priced 2d, with additional material enclosed. Colour printed paper map 32x26cm. Near fine, tanned, neatly folded. A distributor's chit pasted top left partially obscures the Red Cross emblem and corner of the image stating the map is correct to 30 June 1944 (also printed in…the margin of the map). Another chit laid in and headed for the British Prisoners of War Relatives Association (BPOWRA, 16A St James Street, London SW1) states: "We very much regret to have to inform you that we have just heard from the British Red Cross Society that they have cancelled their intended further reprint of the large size map of Camps in Germany. As this will render us, after all, unable to supply you with the large size map, price 1/- which you ordered, we herewith enclose you a small size one, price 2d, at the same time returning you the balance owing to you on the transaction". Originally prepared by Stanford, this covers all of Germany, East Prussia and Austria, and much of Poland, Czechoslovakia, and Hungary, overlaid in red with Prisoners' Camps, Civilian Internment Camps, and Hospitals, which are also listed in the righthand margin with grid references. Notes advise that copies are available from the POW Accounts Department at St James Palace, and "that when communicating or sending parcels to Prisoners of War, the geographical location must not be added". This comes in a brown envelope addressed to a Mrs E. Shenton in Lancs, postmarked London SW1, 5.15PM, 4 May 1945. Rare.
